Heather Brewer
Heather Brewer is president of HB Strategies, working with private companies, non-profit organizations and elected officials to promote ideas that move New Mexico forward.
Clients include the Permian Strategic Partnership, New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.
Heather brings to her work extensive political experience in New Mexico and Washington, D.C. Prior to founding HB Strategies, Heather served as State Director for U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, where she oversaw the strategic and day-to-day operations of his five state offices. She had previously served as District Director for then-Rep. Martin Heinrich, and worked with the Representative to support his win in a tough re-election campaign in 2010.
Heather also served as Media Relations Coordinator for New Mexico Speaker of the House Ben Lujan, a position that helped her develop strong relationships with New Mexico legislators as well as learn how to get things done in Santa Fe.
On the campaign trail, Heather served as Communications Director for Patricia Madrid’s hard-fought congressional campaign in 2006. She also provided communications services for Howard Dean for New Mexico.
Having begun her career as a journalist, Heather took her media experience with her to Capitol Hill where she served as press secretary first for Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald and then for Rep. Lynn Woolsey.
Heather formerly hosted a public affairs radio program, Insight New Mexico, and has been a guest and contributor for other New Mexico programs, including The Jim Villanucci Show and KNME’s The Line. Heather is a board member and contributor to Brava, a New Mexico-based online media platform produced exclusively by women.
Heather is also a founding board member of Emerge New Mexico and continues to serve as the media trainer for each Emerge class. She has provided debate and media training for many candidates and campaigns, including Rep. (now governor) Michelle Lujan Grisham, U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland, New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Shannon Bacon and the Respect ABQ Women campaign.
Heather earned her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She lives in Albuquerque with her husband, Gordon, and their wonderful blended family, which includes eight-year-old fraternal twins.
